Civ-Mil Relations in the 21st Century--Back to the Past

I was invited to guest post at Duck of Minerva, and I was deeply honored.  The folks over their are incredibly smart and post very sharp takes on all stuff that is IR.  I grabbed the opportunity and spewed at length about one of my favorite targets: Rumsfeld.  Actually, the point of the exercise was to make sense of a debate between Peter Feaver and Tom Ricks on the proper role of the civilians in managing the military.  Check it out and comment there or here.

And comeback later today for a super-spew: why Feaver is wrong in his footnote where he asserts that Rummy attention is correlated with success and Rummy distraction is correlated with failure.
