I have not seen Precious as our time for seeing movies in the winter is limited (less good TV in the summer, too much homework in the winter). Plus depressing movies are, well, depressing, so we tend to see them late in the game.
This piece suggests that there are dimensions to the movie that the Oscar folks are ignoring--that whites like it because it helps reinforce existing stereotypes, that African-Americans do not because it makes it seem as if incest is a black problem--which it is clearly not, etc. If you like the movie, check out this op-ed.
