I am not at all surprised to see
foreign aid on the US chopping block to deal with the budget crisis. Foreign assistance is never popular and always over-estimated. But the problem for is this: coming up with the correct analogy. I tweeted the following:
Cutting foreign aid to address budget crisis is like an alcoholic cutting back on apertifs.
I am not sure that is the most apt analogy so I am taking suggestions. Winner gets, well, credit when I post it.
Cutting foreign aid to address budget crisis is like an alcoholic cutting back on chocolate liquor candies.
ReplyDeleteCutting foreign aid to address the budget crisis is like eliminating peanuts on all flights to address the price of jet fuel.
ReplyDeleteCutting foreign aid to address the budget crisis is like getting your hair cut in an effort to lose weight.
ReplyDeleteCutting foreign aid to solve the budget crisis is like executing Troy Davis to reduce prison overcrowding.
ReplyDeleteCutting foreign aid to address budget crisis is like an alcoholic cutting back on roses for your mistress, but keeping her.
ReplyDeleteDon't have anything pithy of my own, just wanted to comment that I love Mike's suggestion.
