Sharp, snarky, reality-based. "But maybe you’re going to law school because you’re bad at math." and then explains the math of it. Good stuff.
I always suggest that pre-law folks don't understand the basic economics of supply and demand, but this piece goes beyond that.
So, read and then figure out something else do to with your life (I am talking not just to a certain niece).
This isn't really applicable in the Canadian context. Not only is law school far less expensive (at McGill, equal to that of a general undergrad degree) but also, the number of law schools in Canada is still pretty limited, and competition for even the lesser schools is tough. We don't churn out lawyers the way they do in the US, so I think the risk of perpetual unemployment/underemployment is not that high...
ReplyDeleteWhen I rant about law school, I am mostly talking about American ones--where many of my students still consider going (especially the American ones) and where my relatives still reside.
ReplyDeleteHere's a good article on what Anonymous is referring to:

p.s. your class was awesome
I wonder if this applies - even in the American context - to any of the, say, top 10 or 20 schools? Is there ALWAYS a market for that kind of degree??
