I was asked by a student about what the death of Kim Jong-il means. Other than more South Park references, I have no idea. I am not sure the specialists have any clue about how son #3 will govern and whether the various folks will put up with him. So, we get to watch and wait and see what happens. Change at the very top of a very totalitarian society can mean "change" but it took something like thirty years to get from Stalin to Gorbachev. It took a couple decades to get from Mao to significant change in a still authoritarian China. Oh, and Egypt is not looking that terrific these days.
So, right now it is shoulder-shrugging time. And then going to youtube for some more South Park fun.
