Thus far, the nominees via Facebook and Twitter are:
- "Leaving on a Jet Plane" nominated by Stephanie Levitz.
- "He Ain't Heavy" nominated by Tricia Wood.
- "You Can't Always Get What You Want" nominated by Erin Simpson. This happened to be my first thought as well.
- "The Bravery of Being out of Range" nominated by Ora Szekely.
- "Citizen CIA" nominated by Peter Trumbore. I don't get it either.
- "Land of Confusion" nominated by Alexandre Carette (I prefer the Disturbed edition), who has spent significant time in Afghanistan working for Canada's Foreign Affairs department.
But I am still taking nominations. What say y'all?
"the end" by The Doors? Or is that too Apocolaypse Nowish/Vietnam?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I hate the Doors. Try again ;)
ReplyDeleteHow about Rocking in the Free World by Neil Young?
ReplyDeleteBetter, but what does that have to do with alliance warfare?
ReplyDeleteMaybe that "sometimes you gotta do, what you gotta do" even if its unpopular. (But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them) or that caveats can't prevent deaths (There's one more kid that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool)- but they're both a bit of a stretch.
Hmmm...well given the amount of cash spent by NATO participants, especially vis-a-vis Karzai, I'd go with "Money can't buy you love" by The Beatles...thoughts?
ReplyDeleteHaving watched the Mad Men finale, You Only Live Twice might work. Countries say one thing, but really do another...
ReplyDeleteIf the book were about trying to be successful in Afghanistan, then Money Can't buy love would be fine. But the book is about why countries vary in how much discretion they gave to their troops. So, a song about trust or delegation or something like that would work better.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
