Now the NYTimes is speculating about the dangers of the machines. Slow news weekend?
The researchers — leading computer scientists, artificial intelligence researchers and roboticists who met at the Asilomar Conference Grounds on Monterey Bay in California — generally discounted the possibility of highly centralized superintelligences and the idea that intelligence might spring spontaneously from the Internet. But they agreed that robots that can kill autonomously are either already here or will be soon.To be clear, we are not there yet, but the scientists are arguing that we need to figure it out before we get too far down the road. Given how quickly we responded to global warming, I just hope that the machines will face serious rust issues in our flooded future.
