Sharp Advice on Fieldwork in Dangerous Places
Jason Lyall, a relatively junior but already prominent prof at Yale, doing work on civil war, discusses the challenges of doing fieldwork in a conflict zone. This kind of work--not something that my wife would let me do or that I would do, knowing the risks. But if we want to understand the worst forms of human behavior as they have big consequences, somebody's going to take risks. Glad that Lyall is sharing what he learned so that my students (and yours) can be make more informed decisions when doing what needs to be done.
