Check out this story about Jim Joyce, the umpire who cost a pitcher a perfect game by making a bad call on what would have been the last play of the game. What makes this story is so compelling is how the protagonists handled it. Once Joyce saw the video, he admitted his mistake and sought out the pitcher to apologize. The pitcher, Armando Galarraga, was quick to embrace him and forgive him. This exchange has been quite moving to a number of people, even though Joyce still feels awful about the experience. Do read this story. The combination of taking responsibility and granting forgiveness is so rarely demonstrated so clearly, so dramatically.
