Short Sports Rant: The NFL Overtime Rule

Is just fine. People whine that whoever wins the flip has a better chance of winning the game. Boo-frickin-hoo. It may be the case that one team never gets the ball in overtime. This happens almost a third of the time. Most of the time, both sides get the ball at least once in overtime, with the original winner of the flip winning the game 60% of the time. So, the team that starts first does have an advantage. To avoid this, try winning in regulation. No need for silly college football rules.

The only change I would possibly recommend is that the game cannot be won by a field goal. Make the first team to five points wins, so that the defending team can have some room for error and does not have to worry about the opponent just getting to the 30 yard line. If the one team gets two field goals before you get one touchdown, well, you deserve to lose.
