I have blogged before about my relatively indecent approval (love?) for Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Here is more reason to do so: the new quadrennial defense review is pragmatic and moderate, rather than grand and arrogant.
The Cold War did lead to a lot of waste, fighting marginally important wars and supporting nasty folks because there was a whiff of communism in the air. Well, the Long War is pretty much the same thing, and it has disappeared as the reigning concept from defense planning. Instead, let's focus on the wars of the present! Not a bad idea.

Well, as long as man-crushes are the topic du jour, can I go ahead and admit my man-crush on your here? :-).
