the price of PQ consent was extending Bill 101 to Quebec's private unsubsidized schools and ensuring there would be no legal challenge by using the notwithstanding clause to over-ride constitutional protection for fundamental rights.
So, if this were to happen, and if they were not to grandfather kids who have been in unsubsidized English schools for eight years or so, my family would be compelled to move to Ontario or New York and I would face a significantly longer commute to work until my daughter finishes high school. Oh, and Quebec would demonstrate that constitutional protection and fundamental rights are what? misnomers?
This is amazing that the Liberals would choose not to choose, that they would surrender their leverage over the issue and empower the PQ by missing the deadline that they knew existed. Apparently, these folks do not know how to do their jobs. Is this pathetic or something worse? The only bright side is that my colleague would have to teach my IR class in Klingon for five minutes.
